Elkton, Maryland is the county seat of Cecil County, Maryland with a population of 11,893 at the 2000 census. It was incorporated in 1787, and currently is the largest municipality in Cecil County and among the 25 major towns in Maryland. It is the home of the Historical Society of Cecil County, as well as the Sheriff John F. Dewitt Museum. It is located at the northern headwaters of Chesapeake By and is near the Delaware border and hence is served by DART First State which connects Elkton to the Newark Rail Station and other DART routes.
